A question for Atheists
by IP_SEC inif you are an atheist, what are your thoughts on the afterlife?
mortality?
we are what we are until we die, then are no more?

IP_SEC:
The right of self ownership and private property are the foundations of morality, ethics and right and wrong. Anything that interferes with self ownership and private property is immoral, unethical and wrong.
That is the basis for the Atheist philosophy I follow. It is called Objectivism and was developed by the novelist Ayn Rand.
There is nothing higher then the human mind and nothing greater then human achievement. No mysticism is needed for morality, ethics or right and wrong.

When we die we cease to exist.
There is no such thing as immortal souls. No such thing as spirits.
Live your life to the fullest because this is all you get.

I was 14 when my mother married an inactive Witness. After many conversations with my step father and reading several Watchtower Society books I was convinced that Jehovah's Witnesses knew the Bible better then any church I had ever attended.
This seeming adherence to the Bible was the reason I became one of Jehovah's Witnesses.
It would be 17 years before I understood that the Witnesses place their organization's theology above the plain spoken words of the Bible.

What's Your Fantasy Job ?
by Taylor S. ini was in nassau sitting on the beach, sipping a 151 pina colada, watching the jet-ski guy, all toned and tanned.
i remember thinking, he's got the coolest job in the world ... sittting on the beach all day, renting & teaching drunk & horny tourists how to ride them.
that's my fantasy .... i wanna be the jet-ski guy.

To Shun Or Follow The American System?
by Englishman ina recent poll suggests that over 90% of americans believe in god.
this compares to around 48% of brits who believe in god's existence.. even the devoutly religious tony blair doesn't want britain to follow in the religious footsteps of the usa, as he clearly states here as he risks incurring the displeasure of george w: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/4369481.stm.
so, as a person whose criticism of the us is confined mainly to it's penal system, i was wondering this: do you think that the more religious a country becomes, the harsher it's treatment is of those who err, harsh punishment being seen as a christian virtue?.

Englishman:
A Felony conviction remains on a persons record. There are some States that allow a Felony conviction to be expunged after 10 years. It is not automatic the Felon must ask that it be taken off.
Talesin:
The United States prison system is more then half full of non violent drug offenders. Changing the law on marijuana alone would halve the prison population and free up the courts and police to pursue robbers, rapists and murderers.

What Happened to the Body?
by hmike ini'm fairly new here, so please excuse me if this has been discussed before.
it seemed like an appropriate time to bring this up.. suppose we accept that there really was a man jesus, rabbi, teacher, etc., but just a mortal man.
so if he didn't resurrect, what happened to the body, and how was the "myth" of the resurrection perpetuated, especially in light of the numerous "witnesses" (some of whom were still alive when the accounts were written, if we can believe that part of the accounts) and the effect this had on their lives?

No it is not risky at all to say that in the first century 500 people saw something they did not. Who was going to go and check? It was all part of the story telling and people wanted to hear a story.
At Fatima, Portugal in 1917 thousands claimed that they saw something when they did not.

Will married partners reunite at resurrection? And what does that imply.
by cyborgVision inhi everybody, since this is my first post i hope everyone is going to be kind to me :) .
one thing that kind of bothers me, and i?ve seen it bothering many honest jws (yes there are such ones) is whether they should remarry after their mate dies.
it is the issue that, in my experience, many do not even dare to confront, at least from older generation.

When I was a Witness the phrase "as angels in heaven" meant that the resurrected ones will not have sexual desires and would have no interest in living with their former mates.

Does the wt literature support lying?
by Check_Your_Premises in.
just a quick question.
i have heard it alluded to before that jw's think it is ok to omit, or to feign ignorance, or even lie when "theocratic warfare" is at stake.. if so, can you give citations of examples where they condone giving less than "the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth".

I no longer have an Aid book so I do not have the page number, but LYING was defined in the Aid book as giving misleading information or witholding information from those ENTITLED to the information. If a Witness thinks the person asking is not entitled, say anyone not a Witness, it is fine by Jehovah to tell them anything whether it is truthfull or not.
